Introduction to Rubric Design

Feb 12, 2026 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM
Online

Registration Deadline: Feb 12, 2026 08:30 AM

A well-designed rubric can not only promote fairness and save you time when grading, it can also be a powerful teaching and communication tool that supports inclusivity and engaged learning. In this workshop, we will explore a variety of rubric purposes and designs, and analyze different kinds of rubrics.

Participants are asked to please bring along either a) an assessment and associated rubric that they have already created OR (if they do not have a pre-existing rubric) b) an assessment in a course they've taken that may lend itself to rubric incorporation.

Together we aim to:

  1. Describe the purposes and designs of rubrics
  2. Analyze the value of different rubric types across contexts
  3. Explore the potential of rubrics to support courses and assessments

Presenters: Jenny Foley

Note: Registration closes by 8:30AM February 12th, 2026.
