The Universal Design for Learning framework offers a proactive approach for creating flexible, inclusive learning environments that address diverse student needs and reduce systemic barriers-especially in a context shaped by equity and inclusion initiatives, accessibility legislation, digital learning, and growing awareness of neurodiversity.
This workshop introduces the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) framework and explores key related concepts such as access, accessibility, accommodation, and the social model of disability. Participants will engage in multimodal activities and analyze case studies to practice applying UDL principles and strategies across a variety of teaching contexts. The session emphasizes creating learning experiences that reduce barriers and foster equity for all students.
Together, we will aim to do the following:
- Explain the core principles of UDL and related concepts (access, accessibility, accommodation, and the social model of disability).
- Apply UDL strategies to case studies to design more inclusive and flexible learning experiences.
Presenters: Mandy Penney and Lucas Riboli Besen
Note: Registration closes by 7:30AM on January 13, 2026.
This session qualifies as a Future Prof credit towards the Western Certificate in University Teaching & Learning.
