The Mindfulness for Academic Success (MAS) program is a 6-week, experiential program designed as an introduction to mindfulness and meditation practices. In this program, participants will learn various exercises to cultivate a more mindful presence in their day-to-day life and will have the opportunity to reflect on how being more mindful can help them succeed as graduate students.
Mindfulness has been described as paying attention, intentionally, to your moment-to-moment experience, non-judgmentally. By being more mindful in our daily life we can reduce worry and stress, be more content and compassionate (to ourselves and others), increase our ability to focus and pay attention, and learn to respond, rather than react, to challenging situations.
By participating in the MAS program, students will have the opportunity to:
- Understand the difference between attention, awareness, and mindfulness
- Practice various types of meditations to help cultivate attention and mindfulness
- Mindfully reflect on challenges faced by graduate students, such as experiencing imposter syndrome and anxiety
- Connect with and create a community with fellow graduate students
